Well, speakin' of that, I have the Aegis holodeck room set up with a couple Pokémon to practice battlin' against, if you ever want to use that. Some of them are based off Blue and Red's team.
[Because even if it's weak, it's something, right]
I know that guy- Lance's team. Will and Karen's too. The rest I could have a stab at. Can't say I was paying my attention beyond crushing all in my way, back when I first started.
[That is an understatement. But moving on.]
Even my father's, if you wanted it. Oh and that stupid girl's starter, I guess.
No. Legendaries like that are pointless. All it is is overwhelming power. You'd do better with an opponent you have to think to win, instead of hit hard enough.
[he only knows lance-- but. he hesitates. he can't make a simulation of giovanni, but he could do the team. maybe it would be therapeutic for niko to battle? he's not sure. he'll give it a go. he can always delete it if it doesn't work out.]
I don't know who that girl is, you realise. Tell me their teams and I'll see about puttin' them in when I have time. You'll probably need to wait a month or two.
The stupid blue-haired girl who took out Team Rocket in Johto and then became it's Champion. Her. She ended up with an equally dumb typhosion from Professor Elm.
[Nikolai, you know damn well she has a name. Use it.]
Tch. Karen uses Dark-Types. I know she has an umbreon and houndoom. Will is a Psychic-type trainer with a pair of xatu.
As for him... Lance has, last I looked, three dragonite, a gyarados, charizard, and an Aerodactyl that somehow knows Rock Slide.
[First it's the Barrier'd dragonite in Gen 1, then the Rock Slid aerodactyl in gen 2.]
I still have no idea who that is. I've only been to Johto once, and that was before you were even born. If you're going to refuse to look beyond your little bubble, Nikolai, I won't be doing any of this for you.
[he cocks his head.]
Do you know their movesets? Else I'll just make up my own.
[More like someone I don't know how to feel towards but I guess I can respect her strength because she's earned it. And now that's been dragged out of him.-]
Not the first two, no. I-we need to be stronger before we can fight our way to the top and fight her. Because we're not ready yet, I haven't studied them in detail.
Lance gave all his pokemon Hyper Beam. There's Twister and Surf too. And Flamethrower too.
... Don't tell me, it can learn the move in your world?
Okay. [STILL NO IDEA WHO THAT IS.] She just has a Typhlosion?
[he hums, though don't think he missed that we correction.]
Tch. All of them with Hyper Beam? What a cop out strategy. Send me a list later and I'll sort it out. Like I said, you'll have to wait a couple of months for me to do this. It's not easy.
Yes? It's a Rock type move. Charizard can learn it too. Sometimes types can learn moves that don't match up with their types, like a Thundershock and Earthquake Gyarados.
[GOD ARCHIE, KEEP UP- ok, no. That is fair.] The only one I remember off the top of my head.
[Even though this is voice, he still nods.] Aww whatever. I'll do what I can. Same with my dad's - the Gymteam at least. Tch. Not like I got much to do than wait as it is.
I know that! So what? Boo hoo. It can learn Rock Slide in your world. What, can it also do that Mega-evolving crap too?
[He's trying not to be bitter, but he is. How much is there he doesn't know about his own team? What other moves can they learn? What else could they do?]
Yeah, it can. I think it's the only fossil Pokémon that can, though. W--wait. Why are you saying boo hoo? I'm a water type expert. I've never had trouble with Aerodactyls. Even mega-evolved ones.
Because I can, that's why! [He every nearly throws his com at that.
Almost.
But he doesn't, because he sort of understands why he had trouble with Lance that one battle. It wasn't because he was too but because he didn't have faith in his team. Didn't trust them to act without his say so. He's still feeling the ripples and consequences from that. Especially on bad days.]Tch ...What other's can mega-evolve? You said Gengar can, right?
[he hums thoughtfully, taking a moment to remember.]
The ones I know of are... Sharpedo, Camerupt, Blaziken, Swampert, Sceptile, Charizard-- it has two forms. Don't know why. Venusaur, Blastoise, Gengar, Aerodactl, Metagross, Absol, Sableye, Lucario, Gardevoir. Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza's Primal forms were a version of mega-evolution. Alakazam, Pinsir, Gyarados, Tyranitar, Mawile, Aggron, Medicham, Manetric, Banette, Garchomp...
[he's missed a few; naturally he only really knows of the hoenn based ones. he studied this hard, when he was teaching himself how to evolve sharpedo.]
Ah! Beedril, maybe Vespiquen? Not sure. Pidgeot, Slowbro, Altaria, Glalie, Gallade, Audino... I think that's most of them.
It's not that easy. Keystones are rare, Alakazite and Gengarite even moreso. If you fuck up the mega-evolution, you could do irreversible damage to your Pokémon and yourself. They could go berserk. Any number of terrible things could happen.
[baku? he'll get to that later.]
Mega evolution isn't a trump card, nor is it something easy that can be done just to pull the rug out from under your opponent. It's very dangerous and hard to control, even for someone that's mastered it. I battled a mega Salamence once, and the trainer could only just rein it in. If she couldn't, I have no doubt it would've gone for her first.
You have no Pokémon that can do it. You're assumin' you'll get a Keystone and the right evolution stones. It's not as simple as just owning the items. Not at all.
[he narrows his eyes.]
I refuse to battle you. Not while you treat mega evolution like this. I won't enable risk to your team like that.
Tch. Right now I don't, but what if the Porter upgrades me so I have them? Then what? What if my team want to risk themselves, huh? It's not just your choice!
[Of course his team would do it. They obey and listen to him.
The idea that his mega-gengar might see him as prey is so far off his radar as to be laughable.]
Aww whatever. Like I want to battle someone so weak anyway! There's no challenge in it.
[And back to 'me-me-me'. Never mind his team would be happy to fight or spar against Archie's pokemon. Nope. All about what Niko wants.]
What if it doesn't? [he hisses angrily. he keeps getting dragged down into these fights with niko-- he almost can't avoid it at this point. it's like the kid knows exactly how to hit his worst points.
archie closes his eyes and takes a deep breath to avoid snapping back something stupid.] Fine. I won't be programming anything for you.
Awww whatever. Like I need some cheap tricks anyway! Which is what upgraded powers and mega-whatever are. All they do is make you weaker in the end. You end up relying on it and become a weak trainer who hides behind it because that's the only way to have strength! Hmph! That's wrong and I'll prove it! Like I've done with everything else!
[It's far, far more bitter and spiteful than he intends, but all he can see right now is Archie stringing him along and then yanking this away.
It only hurts because he let others in. Because he opened up even a fraction. Because he was stupid and started to rely on people when all he needs is himself and his team.
It's not because Archie has a point. Of course not. It's because he was stupid. He let people in when he should be keeping them out, at arms length.
He's not wrong He's never wrong and people need to be at arms lenght so they don't pull this kind of thing on him.]

Wait. None of these match dad's team. This means I'm finally better than him!
[One can almost hear the ruthless, happy smirk in his voice.] All I need now is my alakazam and some mega-stones, right?
